Wyclef Jean to headline 2011 Heineken Regatta

Wyclef Jean to headline 2011 Heineken Regatta

PHILIPSBURG–Internationally acclaimed Grammy award-winner Wyclef Jean will be the headliner at the 2011 St. Maarten Heineken Regatta.

His performance will close the 31st St. Maarten Heineken Regatta on Kim Sha Beach on Sunday, March 6. “Anyone who has seen a Wyclef Jean show knows the high energy levels and positive vibes that come along with it,” was organisers motivation to feature the artist at what is deemed one of the biggest music events in the Caribbean.

Jean first gained fame as part of the very popular group “The Fugees,” after which he went solo in the late 1990s. He has teamed up with many of the world’s most well-known artists and has made significant musical contributions, crossing between genres.

He has been in the news in the past year, as he initiated a run in Haiti’s presidential elections in a bid to help improve life for residents. Although his political candidature eventually was denied, he continues with great success to raise awareness for the country, which suffered a major disaster just over a year ago.

Through his foundation Yele Haiti, he also brings financial support to the island. The St. Maarten Heineken Regatta, for one, is pleased that he is continuing to perform his world-famous live show.

Jean has a large repertoire of well-known songs that he will perform at the closing regatta party. Heineken is sure that sailors, visitors and locals alike will enjoy the show.

Heineken Marketing Manager in St. Maarten Nila Rambhadjan added, “If you’re coming to the show, get ready for excitement! And make sure you know at least this Haitian Creole phrase ‘Sak Pasé!’ as Wyclef and his crew will be asking the crowd ‘What’s up?’ in the Haitian language.”

“St. Maarten will be painted green once again and with a headliner like Wyclef, a great time is assured for everyone, especially with a nice cold Heineken in your hand, and your toes in the warm sand,” assure the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta organisers.
