New Customs station at Fiji, Vuda Marina

New Customs station at Fiji, Vuda Marina

International yacht owners now have improved customs facilities at the Vuda Marina and no longer have to go through the strenuous Customs exercise they usually experience at the Lautoka wharf in Fiji. Superyacht cruising in Fiji

The development follows the official announcement of Vuda Marina as an approved boarding station for international yachts, an accreditation that Denarau Marina has yet to acquire. Vuda Marina Fiji general manager Mr Adam Wade said although it would mean a lot of administrative work for them, the benefits for Fiji’s international yachts’ arrival and departure were immense.
“For Fiji in general, it will increase the arrival and departure experience for international yachts and that is a huge thing for them,” he said. “At the moment, leaving Fiji from the west, the only place that you can do that is in Lautoka and the comments that we’ve received from most yatchies is that it’s very cumbersome, bureaucratic, full of red tape, you have to anchor into a muddy area. ”

Unfortunately when yachts arrive, they have to travel to different parts of Lautoka to get to Customs officials. “They have biosecurity in one area and then they have the Lautoka Hospital in another area, so it’s not easy for them.” Mr Wade said the new boarding station at Vuda Marina was a one-stop-shop for yacht owners. “When they arrive, they will go straight onto our floating pontoon where all four of our government departments they need for clearance will be in the one spot, so it’s a one-stop -shop.”
Visiting yachts can now come in, fill in their paper work, pay their fees and have access to ATMs, laundry facilities, restaurants and cafe.  The marina considers this a successful collaboration between a private enterprise and numerous government agencies to simultaneously co-ordinate the necessary documentation and risk management in order to allow international yachts to enter and depart Fiji with efficiency.

The privately-owned Vuda Marina Fiji has been in operation since 1996. The boarding station will officially open on September 3 2013.
