Australian Superyacht and Marine Export Conference, ASMEX 2012 is set to offer excellent agenda including key industry heavy weights covering many of the topical issues for the Australian marine industry.

Hosted in Sanctuary Cove, Queensland between 22nd and 23rd May 2012

Included in the programme will be an update regarding the legislative restrictions for the Superyacht Industry with a senior representative from AMSA attending to speak regarding this, a Customs representative will also cover the GST issues with visiting yachts and developments with this, and GBRMPA will present regarding the Great Barrier Reef and on the 35m rule.

In addition the programme will cover updates regarding the Manufacturing Task Force and opportunities and strategies for Australian manufacturers. Austrade will present regarding their operational changes and the services now available to businesses as well as providing an overview of the opportunities for business in the Asia Pacific region. The conference will also provide a platform for businesses to reinvigorate strategies and networks with tools to assist in returning your business to health in the current market.


ASMEX organizers announced that Thom Dammrich, NMMA President will be addressing the conference as a keynote speaker providing a current overview of the USA Superyacht and recreational boating industry. Dammrich is an excellent presenter and it will be of considerable interest to marine industry stakeholders  to hear what is happening in the US market and Dammrich’s predictions for the future.


The Superyacht Group will be presenting the results of their ‘State of the Industry’ paper, giving an overview of the fleet, order book, and market activity, and highlighting the situation and the potential for Australia as a part of this.ASMEX 2012 Sanctuary Cove Australia Marco Struik

  • Marco Struik, Managing Director of Struik & Hamerslag(pictured right); a significant and well known European Yacht Interior and Refit company has confirmed his attendance at the conference and will speak about the refit and repair industry globally.
  • Thom Dammrich, President NMMA and Director of ICOMIA providing a current overview of the USA Superyacht and recreational boating industry.
  • Tourism Australia Key Address – the importance of the Superyacht Industry to Australia’s Tourism and TA’s strategy for this industry.


The social programme for ASMEX 2012 will be a highlight again with Sevenstar Yacht Transport sponsoring the Welcome Registration by the ‘Poolside’ at the prestigious Hyatt Regency, Sanctuary Cove where guests will enjoy an evening of entertainment, fine food and wine by the candle lit lagoon


The ASMEX registration fee is $350, AIMEX and Superyacht Australia members and SCIBS exhibitors are entitled a discounted registration fee of $275. These fees include the social programme and GST. Registrations can be completed here.


A three course dinner with wines sponsored by Oatley’s will be held at one of the Gold Coast’s well known venues on Monday night 22 May,  an exciting night has been planned with great live entertainment!!
