Phuket’s Golf Event of the Year

The Charity

Phuket Has Been Good To Us Foundation is a Thai registered charity which helps to create Vocational Opportunities through developing English skills both through formal education as well as after school and non curricula activities. The Foundation teaches English to 700 less privileged children in two schools; employing qualified, fluent English-speaking teachers to provide the best possible English language education.  They also run an extracurricular program for 150 children who are orphans or whose families are not able to look after them.  Each day after school and on Saturdays the children come to the club to join in sports, arts and crafts programs.  The aim of the organisation it to help Thai youth become capable and confident English speakers so they can secure well paid employment in Phuket’s tourism industry.  Website:

The Professionals

The professional golfers already confirmed for the tournament are top players on the Asian Tour, as well as several players from the newly formed One Asia Tour. Players include: 5 time winner Simon Yates, 5 time winner and longest hitter on the Asian Tour Scott Hend, Andy Leadbetter a teaching guru and son of the famous David Leadbetter.  Other players confirmed to play are 2 time winner and rookie of the year Rikard Karlberg, Lam Chih Bing, and in form Thai player Udorn Duangdecha.

The Event

Building on the huge success of the 2010 Pro Am event the title sponsors Phuket Property Dot Com are pleased to announce the second Charity Pro Am event on the island of Phuket. The Pro Am event will be attended by a field of 90 of SE Asia’s best golfers.  Our participant list is likely to read as a who’s who of Phuket, Bangkok Hong Kong and Singapore. There will be major players from residential property development, tourism, IT development, import / export and all areas of real estate.
The aim for the event this year is to have a field of 120 players – 90 amateurs and 30 touring professionals.
Phuket is one of the most popular golfing destinations in Asia, with direct flights from Europe and Australia, projected to be one of the least affected areas from Bangkok’s disruptions. Whilst golf tourism currently only makes up 5% of people coming to Thailand on holiday it accounts for 10% of spending, making this an ideal target group for marketing.

To follow-up on last year we are hoping to have all 4 par 3’s sponsored with various hole-in-one-prizes ranging from travel vouchers, cars, and a new condo again from Yoo Phuket.

The Date

The mid June date has been specifically chosen as there are 2 separate professional tours playing in Thailand 1 week apart – with the 2011 Phuket Property Dot Com Pro Am Invitational being played in the middle week. This should ensure the strongest possible field of touring professionals.

The Golf Course

Phuket’s only resort-based 18-hole, par 71 golf course. Designed by Max Wexler and David Abell, measures 6,654 yards from the back tees and 5,464 yards from the forward tees. Award winning Laguna Phuket Golf Club features a wealth of tropical scenic lagoons and undulating fairways set against a stunning backdrop of mountains and nearby sea.

Voted Top Ten for Best Golf Resort in Asia, Best Clubhouse in Asia and Best Golf Courses in Thailand by readers of Asian Golf Monthly magazine.

The front 9 holes, a par 36, meander through a once flourishing coconut plantation. Players must be exact on their tee shots, as water comes into play on 5 out of the 9 holes. The back 9 holes feature water on 8 out of the 9 holes. Playing to a par 35, golfers will enjoy the challenge of the back-to-back par 5 finishing holes, and the three par 3s. The 11th hole, although only 138 yards, will leave a lasting impression.

The extensive facilities include an 18-hole golf course, driving range, putting greens, practice bunkers and chipping areas. There is also a pro shop that offers an impressive range of golfing accessories. The Laguna Phuket Golf Pro is sure to improve your game. His competitive experience combined with his teaching knowledge gives you a well rounded lesson. Services include regular tournaments and professional tuition.

The Schedule

The majority of our amateurs will be residents of Phuket, however 30% are likely to be from Bangkok, Hong Kong and Singapore. Our professional players will be flying in from Monday to the Wednesday before the event. They will be greeted at the airport and taken to their 5* resorts on the island.

Registration will be taking place early to ensure we have a full day to get the event complete. It is at registration that the players will register their club handicaps and pick up their high quality ‘goody bags’.

After the event all of the pros will be taken back to their hotels for a brief rest before everyone reconvenes in the gardens of the Sheraton Grande Laguna (To Be Confirmed) for cocktails followed by the prize giving dinner. All players will be encouraged to bring partners to the evening meal and our professional players are encouraged to bring wives/girlfriends to the event with spa packages offered as a partner programme.
